Like last year’s Eat Locals, this anaemic horror-comedy arrives UOA (Undead On Arrival). Drained of all humour and suspense you can still sense that this could have been a laugh riot had the cast mastered the art of comic timing. Unfortunately, Nick Nevern and Dan Palmer posted their script to the wrong people – whereas the former’s The Hooligan Factory had energy and some smarts this comedy fails to tap into anything resemblng a life-force. Half-good lines are garbled, jokes botched and solid performers wasted along the way.

This is the feature film debut of Daniel O’Reilly aka Dapper Laughs, a London comedian in the mould of Roy Chubby Brown who mistakes dick and fanny jokes for sophistication. He expands his act here and projects on to a chancer who’s sent to jail for starting a mass brawl at Club Moist (his favourite strip joint). Only he’s sent to the mysterious Stokesville Prison where the Governor (STEVEN BERKOFF – BEVERLY HILLS COP) and the screws are really vampires. They’re government sanctioned as it keeps prisoner numbers down too (political jokes!!!!!)  When the lights go down the inmates get harvested – amongst the prey are frequent diners in the Happy Eater league of filmmaking like: Vas Blackwood (CREEP), Stephen Marcus (HEAR MY SONG), Joe Egan (KILLER BITCH) and Stu Bennett (I AM VENGEANCE). On the baddies side is Lauren Socha (TV’s MISFITS), Roland Manookian (THE BUSINESS) and Dan Palmer (STALLED). Terry Stone (ONCE UPON A TIME IN LONDON) shows up for a tired cameo at the start too. Us viewers really do get spoiled sometimes.

Limping along with its script wielded like a crucifix against boredom, bad make-up effects and a lack of energy Fanged Up is a good idea in search of a pulse. Dapper Laughs gives it his all but by pairing him up with a chunk of furniture (Bennett) means he’s left gesticulating, recycling jokes and fluffing some potentially funny lines.

2 out of 10 – Fanged Up is on par with stag-do videos and fan-made tributes to Mrs Brown’s Boys. There’s no need to be vamped up for this one.
