Well, I suppose you get what you asked for. It was clear even when Craig Fairbrass and chums made Rise of the Footsoldier 3 that this true-crime film series about the Essex Boys was running on low on Landrover fumes. Scraping the last of the dreggiest of dregs, this fourth installment even begins with a disclaimer that more or less confesses to being 100 % fictional – so we’re in the realms of fantasy like Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Slayer now. This is a blatant, cynical cash-in obvs. Oh well. I still bought it like a soppy mug.

The only thing ROTFS 4 has going for it, is that these films are relatively well made for low-budget brit-fare. But this is tired, lionising of super boring violent, drug dealers who love the C word, it seems that this is the USP- as the word is shouted, uttered, whispered in every other sentence. It must be a world record – well done. Aim low and it scores. There’s worse films out there about Pat Tate, Tony Tucker and Craig Rolfe. It’s rather telling that despite the poor quality of this horrible, squalid, misogynistic gangster movie, it’s still head and sorry shoulders above the legions of other films that revolve around this thunderously dull true story.

2 out of 10 – Teletubbies Essex Boys style. Again, again!
